Whether you have bought new or second hand, all cars require a service. When buying new the main dealer will often include the option to purchase service plans. This may save you money in the long run but costs and initial amount upfront. Buying second hand generally means you have to arrange your own servicing. But why should you service your car? Is it not just an additional cost to motoring you do not need?
Oil Service
Engines are the heart of your car. Impressive as they are they are susceptible to wear and damage which over time will reduce the engine performance and may result in the engine failing all together. Engines run hot and to stop them ceasing oil is used to lubricate the parts that move. Over time the oil will burn off and result in the engine running dry. You can top your engine oil up as you go but the dirt and grime which has been built up in the sump and oil filter is not getting removed.
An oil service is the very basic service your car needs to run efficiently. The oil is fully drained from your engine via the sump and disposed of correctly. Fresh oil that is approved for your engine is used and a new oil filter is added.
Did You Know?
Old oil sat in engines can become corrosive and cause damage internally. Even if you have done less miles than your next service requires you should change your oil at least once a year.
Service Schedules
Your car features many parts which have a life expectancy and need to be replaced. Some parts will reduce in performance, others can cause catastrophic damage if they fail. Your car will include a service schedule which tells the mechanic what parts need replacing and what point to prevent these issues. This is defined as a minor and a major service.
A Minor service will include the oil, oil filter, air filter and pollen filter.
A Major service will include the oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter and could include auxiliary belts, timing belts and water pump.
Each manufacture is different.
How much will a service cost me?
Each car is different. We recommend you call the team on 01202 734433 to get a quote.
How often should I service my car?
Each car has their own service schedule which can be found in your service book. At the very minimum we would recommend an oil change every year, preferably tie this in with your MOT.
How long does it take to service a car?
This will depend on the service you require. An oil change can take place whilst you wait whereas a Major service could take a day. If that is the case, Hughes does provide courtesy cars for their customers.
Can you provide fixed schedule servicing like the main dealer?
Yes we can! Hughes can provide main dealer quality at high street prices.
Do you provide servicing for all cars?
Yes we do. All makes and models including Petrol, Diesel, Hybrid and Electric.
Can you carry out my service and MOT at the same time?
When booking in your MOT make sure to mention you require a service as well and we will book both in for you.
Do you provide a service stamp in my service book?
After your service is carried out our technicians will update your service book to reflect the work done and keep your service history intact. We can also update your online records if applicable and provide service books for cars which provide online only service books.
